Orange Kandy kicked off their 1999 U.S. Tour with a show at The Japan Festival, a showcase of Japanese arts and artists, at the Norris Theatre on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The band played a full 2 hour set, including songs off of "Lick This" as well as new songs and cover tunes. The band seemed to enjoy playing in front of a Japanese speaking audinece as witnessed by the clever banter between songs. By the end of the sow the audience was going crazy, many of whom ended up on stage with the band. - Steve Adam | |

After playing the Norris theatre, the band headed out to the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The Coconut Teaser was the bands first L.A. club date after SXSW, and they pulled out all the stops. Just before they came on, the club filled up with people anxious to see this new band from Japan. With the help of a great sound system, they blew the LA audience away, rockin' hard with Swing Planet, Slight Heat, and Hard Rock Star. - Steve Adam |

The scene was still reelin' from the night before. Orange Kandy had blown the doors off of the Teaser, and the word was out that they were back. The late show at Al's drew a mixture of Al's Bar regulars, Teaser transplants, and people who had heard about last night, and wanted to check it out. The show got rolling as Mr. Hollywood On-Line introduced the band to the enthusiastic audience. The band took off into Swing Planet and Let's Party. The Al's Bar audience was blown away. When Linda belted out "Can you feel my heat-when you're deep inside of me?" (Slight Heat) they got a taste of what they missed the night before. The band closed the set with a shredding version of "Middle Of The Road" by The Pretenders. - Steve Adam |

The band had the ultra-early slot at Club 369 located in Orange County. Despite the sparse attendance, Orange Kandy rocked hard, and a good sound and lighting system made the show that much more enjoyable. The band palyed "Lucky Man", a song they had not performed since the Norris Theatre show. The audience had no idea how lucky they were, to be watching this top-notch band from Japan rocking the hell out of their local pub. A moment in time. - Steve Adam |

Back in L.A. for the closing night of the Spring '99 U.S. Tour.
The Opium Den was filled with Orange Kandy fans there to see the final
L.A. show. A she-male introduced the band (you really had to be there),
and they launched into "Swing Planet" then "Hello There", delighting their
loyal audience. Other treats awaited-"Green", "Taste of Love", "Hard Rock
Star", and "Lucky Man" all played in the same show. Ban was on. Some nights
they play great. But when Ban is on it becomes transcendent. To top things
off, Cherie Currie of the Runaways joined Linda onstage for the encore
- a blistering version of
"Middle of The Road" - Steve Adam |

Orange Kandy back in L.A. again Wow!. The enthusiastic crowd at Al's was good and ready to rock, and OK gave them all they could handle. Lots of famililar faces in the crowd from the last time they played L.A. Some new songs, Daisy & D.D.S., and a new bass player kept things interesting. So good to see them tear the roof off of Al's Bar again. Cameras flashing, tape rolling, it's good to be back on Planet OK again! |

A Late night at the Coconut Teazer. OK was scheduled to go on at 12:30am. They started things off right with a hot opener, "Swing Planet", and then went right into a shredding "Slight Heat". The show seemed much better sound-wise compared to the Al's show the night before, no doubt due to the great sound system at the Teazer. Maybe it was just me, but I thought they really cooked at this show. They absolutely smoked through this whole set, ending with "Cherry". They had "Let's Party" listed as the encore on the set list, but instead decided, Let's Party for real, as we headed back to their hotel for the after party. - Steve Adam |
