TODD RUNDGREN
SUN THEATRE
JUNE 18, 2000

What a difference a venue makes. This was a better show than the House of Pose for many reasons, all of which contributed to a better performance. The Sun has good climate control, so OH wasn't dripping with sweat after the first song. The Sun is also a pretty large venue with a high ceiling, so the room could handle all of the sound that Todd could crank out.  The sound mix was excellent, and because of the size and acoustics of the Sun, the sound was a lot fuller, and had more air to it, in the same manner that vinyl has a higher ceiling than a CD.  Whether it was a solo acoustic "Cliche' or or a ball busting "Black & White",  the sound was rich and full.  In addition, we got #1 LCD, The Ikon>OpenMy Eyes, and Mystified/BDB/Mytified all in one show, plus Surf Talks for an extra encore song.  Killer show.  Here's the setlist:

Photos - The Sun had posted "No flash photography" signs outside,so no problem, pop in 800 max and turn off the flash. Saw other people taking flash pix, but no one getting hassled, which is very cool.

Guitar Cord - During the high kick part in "Couldn't I Just Tell You" Kasim's ankle gets caught in his guitar cord, and Kasim lands flat on his ass. Yikes! There goes Kasim.  Todd gets a chuckle out of this turn of events telling the audience "That has happened to me more times than I care to admit". A little flustered, but none-the-less undaunted, Kasim carries on the rest of the show, standing on a broken foot.

Todd gets laid - Right before "Bang on The Ukelele" two young lovelies (Edie Brickell & Friend) adorn OH with lei's. Todd wears them for the song, then politely hangs them on his mikestand, so that they "Won't hinder my performance"

Ambience - Someone in the audience yells out "Our Hero" (among other things). Todd replies "This is wierd, but it seems like I can hear everything you guys are saying out there".

There  were a lot of little things that added upto making this an excellent show. OH seemed to have more energy and wasputting a lot more into his solos as a result.  Out in the audiencethe sound was great, and it was also nice to sit down for a change.

Food for thought - Both the House of Pose and Sun Theatre tickets said 8:00pm.
Todd came on at 10:15 at the House of Pose and at 8:30 at theSun.

Enjoy the pics!
